1. The Crow and the Fox (कावळा आणि खार)

देवनागरी

एका कावळ्याला एक रोटी मिळाली. तो रोटी घेऊन झाडावर बसला. एक खार तेथे आली. तिने कावळ्याला पाहिले.

खार म्हणाली, “कावळ्या, तू खूप सुंदर आहेस. तुझे पंख काळे आणि चमकदार आहेत. तुझा आवाजही गोड असेल. मला एक गाणे ऐकव.”

कावळा खूप आनंदी झाला. त्याने गाणे गायले, “काव-काव!” त्याच्या तोंडातून रोटी पडली. खारीने लगेच रोटी उचलली आणि निघून गेली.

कावळा खूप दुःखी झाला. त्याला समजले - चांगल्या गोष्टींवर कधीच विश्वास ठेवू नये.

Transliteration

Ekā kāvḷyālā ek roṭī miḷālī. To roṭī gheūn jhāḍāvar baslā. Ek khār tethe ālī. Tine kāvḷyālā pāhile.

Khār mhaṇālī, “Kāvḷyā, tū khūp sundar āhes. Tujhe pankh kāle āṇi chamkadar āhet. Tujhā āvāzahī goḍ asel. Malā ek gāne aikav.”

Kāvḷā khūp ānandī jhālā. Tyāne gāne gāyale, “Kāv-kāv!” Tyāchyā toṇḍātūn roṭī paḍalī. Khārīne lagech roṭī uchallī āṇi nighūn gelī.

Kāvḷā khūp duḥkhī jhālā. Tyālā samajle - chānglyā goshṭīvar kadhiych vishvās thevū naye.

English Translation

A crow got a piece of bread. He sat on a tree with the bread. A fox came there. She saw the crow.

The fox said, “Crow, you are very beautiful. Your wings are black and shiny. Your voice must also be sweet. Sing me a song.”

The crow became very happy. He sang a song, “Caw-caw!” The bread fell from his mouth. The fox immediately picked up the bread and went away.

The crow became very sad. He understood - one should never trust flattering words.

2. The Thirsty Crow (तहानलेला कावळा)

देवनागरी

एक कावळा खूप तहानलेला होता. तो पाणी शोधत फिरत होता. त्याला एक घर सापडले. तेथे एक माठ होता. माठात थोडे पाणी होते.

कावळ्याच्या टप्प्यात पाणी पोचत नव्हते. तो खूप विचार करू लागला. त्याला एक कल्पना सुचली.

त्याने जवळचे दगड उचलले. तो दगड माठात टाकला. असे त्याने अनेक दगड टाकले. पाणी वर आले. कावळ्याने पाणी पिले आणि तो प्रसन्न झाला.

कष्ट केले तर मनाप्रमाणे फळ मिळते.

Transliteration

Ek kāvḷā khūp tahānlelā hotā. To pānī shodhat phirat hotā. Tyālā ek ghar sāpaḍale. Tethe ek māṭh hotā. Māṭhāt thoḍe pānī hote.

Kāvḷyāchyā ṭappyāt pānī pochat navhate. To khūp vichār karū lāglā. Tyālā ek kalpnā suchalī.

Tyāne javalche dhang uchallā. To dhang māṭhāt ṭākalā. Asā tyāne anek dhang ṭākale. Pānī var āle. Kāvḷyāne pānī pīle āṇi to prasann jhālā.

Kaṣhṭ kele tar manāpramāṇe phaḷ miḷate.

English Translation

A crow was very thirsty. He was wandering around looking for water. He found a house. There was a pot there. There was some water in the pot.

The water was not within the crow’s reach. He started thinking deeply. An idea came to him.

He picked up nearby stones. He threw the stones into the pot. He threw many stones like this. The water came up. The crow drank the water and became happy.

If you work hard, you get results as you desire.

3. The Lion and the Mouse (सिंह आणि उंदीर)

एक सिंह जंगलात झोपला होता. एक लहान उंदीर त्याच्या अंगावरून धावला. सिंह जागा झाला. त्याने उंदीराला पकडले.

उंदीर भिऊ लागला. तो म्हणाला, “माफ करा, मला सोडा. मी लहान आहे, पण एक दिवस तुमची मदत करेन.”

सिंह हसला. त्याने उंदीराला सोडले. काही दिवसांनंतर, सिंह एका जाळ्यात अडकला. तो किंचाळू लागला.

Transliteration

Ek siṃh jaṅgālāt jhoplā hotā. Ek lahān undīr tyāchyā aṅgāvarūn dhāvalā. Siṃh jāghā jhālā. Tyāne undīrālā pakaḍale.

Undīr bhīū lāglā. To mhaṇālā, “Māph karā, malā soḍā. Mī lahān āhe, pan ek divas tumchī madat karen.”

Siṃh haslā. Tyāne undīrālā soḍale. Kāhī divasānnantar, siṃh ekā jāḷyāt aḍaklā. To kiṃchāḷū lāglā.

Undīr ālā. Tyāne dātānnī jāḷe toḍale. Siṃh mukta jhālā. Lahān mitrahī mōṭhī madat karū shakta.

English Translation

A lion was sleeping in the jungle. A small mouse ran over his body. The lion woke up. He caught the mouse.

The mouse got scared. He said, “Please forgive me, let me go. I am small, but one day I will help you.”

The lion laughed. He let the mouse go. A few days later, the lion got trapped in a net. He started roaring.

The mouse came. He cut the net with his teeth. The lion was freed. Even a small friend can give big help.

4. The Hare and the Tortoise (ससा आणि कासव)

देवनागरी

एक ससा आणि एक कासव होते. ससा खूप वेगवान होता. तो आळशी कासवाची थट्टा करायचा. एक दिवस कासवाने शर्त लावली - “चल, शर्यत करूया.”

ससा हसला. तो म्हणाला, “मी जिंकणार!” शर्यत सुरू झाली. ससा वेगाने धावू लागला. त्याने मागे पाहिले. कासव खूप मागे होता.

ससा थकला. त्याला वाटले, “कासव इतका मागे आहे. मी थोडा विश्रांती घेऊ.” तो झोपला.

कासव सतत चालत राहिला. तो थांबला नाही. जेव्हा ससा जागा झाला, तेव्हा कासव ध्येयस्थानी पोहोचला होता. कासव शर्यत जिंकला.

हळू पण सातत्याने चालणे यशस्वी होते.

Transliteration

Ek sasā āṇi ek kāsav hote. Sasā khūp vegvān hotā. To āḷashī kāsavāchī ṭhaṭṭā karāychā. Ek divas kāsavāne sharat lāvalī - “Chal, sharyat karūyā.”

Sasā haslā. To mhaṇālā, “Mī jiṅkaṇār!” Sharyat surū jhālī. Sasā vegāne dhāvū lāglā. Tyāne māghe pāhile. Kāsav khūp māghe hotā.

Sasā thaklā. Tyālā vāṭale, “Kāsav itakā māghe āhe. Mī thoḍā vishrāntī gheū.” To jhoplā.

Kāsav satat chālat rāhilā. To thāmblā nāhī. Jevhā sasā jāghā jhālā, tevhā kāsav dhyeyasthānī pohochlā hotā. Kāsav sharyat jiṅklā.

Haḷū pan sātatya chālaṇe yashasvī hote.

English Translation

There was a hare and a tortoise. The hare was very fast. He used to make fun of the slow tortoise. One day the tortoise made a bet - “Come, let’s race.”

The hare laughed. He said, “I will win!” The race started. The hare started running fast. He looked back. The tortoise was far behind.

The hare got tired. He thought, “The tortoise is so far behind. I’ll take some rest.” He fell asleep.

The tortoise kept walking continuously. He did not stop. When the hare woke up, the tortoise had reached the finish line. The tortoise won the race.

Moving slowly but consistently leads to success.
