Introduction | परिचय

Consonants (व्यंजन - vyañjan) are sounds produced with some obstruction in the vocal tract. In Marathi, consonants are systematically organized based on where and how they are produced.

Marathi consonants are classified by:

Place of Articulation (स्थान): Where the sound is produced
Manner of Articulation: How the sound is produced
Voicing (घोष/अघोष): Whether vocal cords vibrate
Aspiration (महाप्राण/अल्पप्राण): Whether accompanied by a puff of air
